Yummy Fudgy/Chewy Brownies

I recently made some brownies that came out very cakey. I don’t like cakey brownies. So I did a little research and learned that to make fudgy/chewy brownies, the ratio of fat to flour is higher. Cakey brownies have a higher flour to fat ratio. So I took a combination of different recipes to come up with the following deliciousness:

The Perfect Fudgy Brownie

You will need:

  • whisk
  • sauce pan
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • rubber spatula
  • mixing spoon
  • hand mixer (optional)
  • 8×8 glass pan
  • parchment paper

Preparation:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Prepare an 8×8 pan by lining it with parchment paper.  If you don’t have parchment paper, grease and flour the pan in the usual.  The paper prevents brownie “edges”.

Ingredients and Instructions:

Melt in a saucepan:

  • 1/2 c Butter
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1T coconut oil
  • 1/2 c unsweetened chocolate powder
  • optional 1T freshly ground coffee

Mix in small bowl:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1t vanilla extract
  • 1T water

Whisk this together until it is blended well.

Mix in another bowl:

  • 1c flour
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1/4 t baking powder

Whisk the dry ingredients together until they are blended well, then add this mixture to the egg mixture.

Mix the egg mix + flour mix together with a wooden spoon.

Mix in the chocolate mixture with a wooden spoon or with a hand mixer.

Pour mixture into 8×8 pan and bake for 35 – 45 minutes.  After 35 minutes, check it every 5 minutes with a toothpick until the toothpick comes out of the center clean.

Allow to cool, cut, and serve!

Options:

Add walnuts and/or chocolate chips.  If you add chocolate chips, let the mixture cool in the fridge for about 10 minutes (or the amount of time it takes to clean up), then add the chips.  This way they won’t melt completely when you add them in.

The proportions of sugar in this recipe make it so that it is not super sweet.  As they are, they taste really good with coffee or put in ice cream.  An adult brownie.   Add another 1/2 c sugar for a sweeter brownie.
